Gray Flowered Hutch

This hutch was a custom job. Here is the original piece:

First I did some scuff sanding on this to try and get rid of the high gloss feel it had. So much furniture is sprayed with protective coatings but you need to get rid of that slippery feeling or your paint won't stick. So a quick scuff sanding with 220 all over (after giving it a good clean).

I then applied 2 coats of clear shellac with a chip brush.

Then I painted with Annie Sloan Paris Gray and put on 2 coats of this. Once the paint was dry I did a little bit of distressing with 220 grit paper. I let the paint sit for a couple days.

I then applied the French Ceramics transfer.

After the transfer was completed I sealed it with wax. First I sealed with Annie Sloan clear wax. After 24 hrs I put on some dark wax (a mix with clear wax) as I wanted to age the piece a bit. You can use wax or a water sealer on top of the transfers.

I have lots of how to videos on my YouTube channel on using transfers, painting with chalk paint, how to wax.
