This table was your typical laminate top 60's table. I saw potential though as it has the great curves of the french provincial style. You can actually sand laminate down. You just have to be careful in your sanding.
I used 120 grit, but with a light hand. Then moved to a 220, then a 400. Instead of using a dark stain I wanted to go with something lighter and weathered so I used a minwax stain (my affiliate link). I think it was called classic gray. 2 coats applied. I love how you can see all the wood grain on the table top still. It was then sealed with a poly sealant, several coats.
The legs and the chairs got painted in a mix of AS coco and french linen. I added a bit of old white to highlight. The chairs were recovered in material I found at Hobby Lobby.
